Paganini Volleyball

In 2009, the Dragon community suffered the unexpected loss of Greg Paganini, a proud Sonoma Valley High School alumnus and devoted volleyball supporter. Greg was passionate about girls’ volleyball and took immense pride in following the athletic journeys of his two daughters, Tessa and Cara Paganini.

In response to this loss, the Paganini family and close friends came together to create a meaningful way to honor Greg’s memory. With generous support from the community and the dedication of countless volunteers, the inaugural Paganini Memorial Volleyball Tournament was held at Sonoma Valley High School in 2010.

Held each September, the tournament has become a cherished tradition within the Sonoma Valley community. In its early years, proceeds were used to provide financial assistance to the SVHS volleyball program and its players, helping offset the costs associated with participation. As the tournament has grown, its mission has expanded to support all athletic programs at Sonoma Valley High School.

Over time with Kathleen Scanlon our Tournament Director at the helm, the event has gained strong regional recognition and community participation. In 2024, the tournament proudly expanded to include and support the Sonoma Valley Boys Volleyball Program. Today, the Paganini Memorial Tournament spans multiple weekends and includes Freshman, JV, and Varsity divisions, welcoming more than 30 teams annually.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals and organizations who have helped sustain this event, including Kathleen Scanlon, Coach Mindy Neves, and Sonoma Valley High School for graciously hosting the tournament each year. Most importantly, we thank the players, families, sponsors, and volunteers who continue to make this event both meaningful and impactful.

It is our sincere hope that the Paganini Memorial Volleyball Tournament will always reflect the spirit Greg embodied—enthusiasm, sportsmanship, community, and joy—while fostering fair competition and lasting memories for generations of student-athletes.

With gratitude,
The Paganini Family
